The path to giving back to your profession starts here.

You have had education and experiences like no other. Short of writing a book, these valuable lessons remain with you and only you.

Consider teaching and mentoring a medical student and give back to the profession and your community. Volunteer physician faculty often state what they get out of teaching is tangible professional growth and pride in giving back to the profession that has served them and their community well.

Other ways to get involved

  • Our Alumni Association has recently started the HOSTHelping Our Students Travel Program. This program consists of alumni volunteers who allow fourth year medical students to stay in their homes while visiting for residency interviews, helping reduce medical student's travel expenses.
  • The HOST program also provides students with alumni connections and allows students to become better acquainted with the city/medical community they are visiting; a great way to foster our Legacy of Leadership.

What is a Longitudinal Integrated Curriculum?

  • Students will choose to be residents of the community and have increased continuity over the transitional clerkship students that rotate in 6-8 weeks blocks and then take a Shelf test. The LICLongitudinal Integrated Curriculum students will take the same Shelf tests together based on a published calendar. These students will follow their patients throughout the healthcare continuum (Inpatient, Outpatient, Specialist, Rehab, Nursing Home, Home Visits) and will complete their core rotations with the same preceptor for a year in one-week sessions. All of their requirements will be the same as the traditional (transitional) students including procedures, call and core rotations.

Do I need a formal affiliation agreement with Augusta University?

  • Yes, but only if you plan to take students more than once per year.

Does Augusta University require background checks on students?

  • Yes, AAMCThe Association of American Medical Colleges recommends that all U.S. medical schools obtain a national background check on applicants upon their initial conditional acceptance to medical school to bolster the public's continuing trust in the medical profession, enhance the safety and well being of patients, ascertain the ability of accepted applicants and enrolled medical students to eventually become licensed as physicians and to minimize the liability of medical schools and their affiliated clinical facilities.
