The Musculoskeletal Performance Laboratory is equipped to examine muscle activation using non-invasive, clinically-based techniques. Equipment includes a Biopac Systems 8-channel surface electromyographic system for recording muscle activity, AcqKnowledge software for analyzing a variety of neuromuscular parameters, and a JTech Commander Power Track II Muscle Dynamometer for quantifying muscle force. The laboratory also houses a SonoSite diagnostic ultrasound machine to easily visualize various musculoskeletal structures. Areas of research conducted in this laboratory include strength and neuromuscular factors in individuals with patellofemoral pain, muscle activation during rehabilitation exercise to enhance exercise prescription, and the use of diagnostic ultrasound to enhance clinical decision-making.
