Purpose and Objectives
The purpose of this continuing education program is to update the dentist and dental team about a variety of caries- and non-caries related challenges to children's oral health, and to equip the dental team to identify and manage these issues.
After this session, attendees should be able to: Discuss basic feeding, beverage, and nursing recommendations in the context of oral health care for children ages birth to 3 years; treatment plan an airway when using pharmacological behavior management in young children; identify the dentist's role in managing obesity in children; describe how food allergies impact diet choices and treatment planning; and identify 'red flags' when assessing facial cellulitis in children.

|Dr. Sarath Thikkurissy, Professor and Director of the Advanced Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. He obtained his DDS from New York University and his Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry as well as Master’s Degree from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and Nationwide Children's Hospital. He also completed the program in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at Wright Patterson and was in active duty in the U.S. Air Force for eight years as Chief of Pediatric Dentistry at Ramstein AFB in Germany. He was Director of the Predoctoral Program in Pediatric Dentistry at The Ohio State University from 2006-2011 and Director of Inpatient Dental Services at Nationwide Children's Hospital from 2010-2013. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He has published in the area of morbidities, quality of life, and pain management in children.|
|Dr. Steven M. Adair, Course Director, received his dental degree from the University of North Carolina, and his Master’s degree and certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Iowa. He is Professor Emeritus and former chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Adair is currently SVP, Clinical Quality Initiatives and Education at CSHM LLC, a dental support organization. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, and has served on the Commission for Dental Accreditation, National Board Test Construction Committee and as a consultant to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Air Force.|
