Curriculum Terminology


Course Code:
A four letter series that represents the department and/or program area in which the course is housed. Contact the Office of the Registrar for questions regarding the appropriate course code. Requests for new course codes must be approved by the Provost. 
Course Number:
A four digit number that represents the level of the course. Contact the Office of the Registrar for questions regarding the appropriate course number.

 

CIP Code:
The Classification of Instructional Programs is a United States Department of Education system that represents every major discipline and sub discipline common to U.S. higher education institutions and their academic programs. Contact the Office of Academic and Faculty Affairs for questions regarding the appropriate CIP code.

 

Effective Term:
The term in which the curriculum revision is anticipated to begin.
Title:
The title of the course.  

 

College:
The college in which a course resides. All courses must be part of an academic college.
Department:
The department in which a course resides. All courses must be housed in an academic department or program.
 
 
Course Description:
An outline of the topics or student learning outcomes to be covered in a particular course.

 

Catalog Description:
A brief description of the course as it is to appear in the Augusta University catalog.

 

 
Number of Hours:
The total number of credit hours received from the successful completion of a course.        For information regarding the calculation of credit hours from lecture, lab, clinic, or seminar time, see Academic Affairs Policy 3.6.3 - Definition of a Credit Hour.

 

 
Method of Delivery:
Face-to-Face:Course is delivered 100% in a classroom-based environment.

Hybrid:Course is delivered at least 50% in a classroom-based environment and the remaining percentage through an approved distance education technology.

Online: Course is delivered 100% through an approved distance education technology.
