Credit Hour Calculations


Augusta University employees sound and acceptable practices for determining the amount of level of credit awarded for courses, regardless of format or mode of delivery. Guidelines may be found in Academic Affairs Policy 3.6.3 - Definition of a Credit Hour.

General Credit Hours Awarded

Type of Course Credit/Contact Hours
Lecture 1 credit hour per 750 minutes
Laboratory 1 credit hour per 1500 minutes
Clinical (Option A) 1 credit hour per 1500 minutes
Clinical (Option B) 1 credit hour per 2250 minutes
Seminar 1 credit hour per 750  minutes
Independent Study 1 credit hour per 2250 minutes
Internship/Practicum 1 credit hour per 1500 minutes
Research 1 credit hour per 2250 minutes

Note: For all types of courses, instruction time plus minimum out of class work time must equal 2,250 minutes. Variable credit courses and their contact hours must be fixed for the student at the time of registration and must be consistent with the table above.
