Our application for Spring 2019 opens September 1, 2017 and our deadline is February 1, 2018 (refer to the program overview for more information)

NOTE: Nursing Anesthesia does not defer admission or accept late applications. All required application materials and documents must be received on or before the deadline in order for an application to be considered complete and before an admission decision can be made.

REQUIREMENTS & RECOMMENDATIONS

Completed Online Application: via NursingCAS

Augusta University’s College of Nursing is now participating in the Nursing Centralized Application Service (NursingCAS). NursingCAS allows applicants to use a single online application and one set of materials to apply to multiple nursing programs at participating schools. Augusta University’s College of Nursing receives complete and verified information from NursingCAS and is solely responsible for all admission decisions.

Application Fee: $45 NursingCAS and $45 Augusta University Supplemental

GPA: Minimum overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. 

Minimum Degree Requirement:  Completion of a prelicensure nursing program with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from an accredited program and an accredited college or university. To be used to satisfy degree requirements, evaluation of foreign educational transcripts must show degrees earned that are the U.S. equivalency of degrees required by the program. 

Official Transcripts:  Official transcripts are required from all universities and colleges ever attended. Only in the case of transcripts from international colleges/universities will an official course-by-course transcript evaluation be accepted in lieu of an official transcript. Official transcripts should be sent to NursingCAS. To remain official, all transcripts must remain in the original, unopened, sealed and stamped/signed envelope from the Registrar's office of the issuing institution. 

Transcript/Credential Evaluation of Foreign Transcripts: An official, professional course-by-course evaluation based on official transcripts and documents is required for all foreign educational transcripts and documents from one of the following three credentials evaluation services: Josef Silny & Associates, Inc., World Education Services (WES), Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. (ECE). Silny and WES are recommended. Official transcript evaluations based on unofficial transcripts, documents or copies will not fulfill this requirement. International Students

References: As part of the online NursingCAS application process, applicants provide the names and current email addresses for three individuals they have asked to serve as their referees. Referees should be individuals qualified to critically assess the applicant's prior academic (usually college professors), employment, artistic, research and/or clinical experience (clinical or research supervisor/manager) and qualifications (as applicable) as well as the applicant's potential as a graduate student in the field/program selected. Once the online application is submitted, each referee will receive an email notification directing him/her to the online site where he/she can complete the reference form and submit his/her letter of recommendation. 

Standardized Tests: 

  • GRE: Test scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) taken within 5 years of the date of application.
    • Minimum score: 290 (sum of verbal and quantitative sections)
    • The institution code for submission of GRE scores to Augusta University is 5406. Please do not select a department code. 
  • TOEFL Exam Scores:
    • Minimum score: 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based or 79 internet-based.
    • Official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test scores are required for applicants whose first language is not English. The institution code for submission of TOEFL scores to Augusta University is 5406. Please do not select a department code.
    • Exemption from the TOEFL requirement is allowed for graduate students who submit proof of earning a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college/university where English is the language of instruction. 

Proof of Lawful Presence: In accordance with Board of Regents Policy 4.1.6, all applicants for admission to Augusta University are required to provide validation of lawful presence in the United States. Acceptance to the Augusta University is conditional until lawful presence is verified. ALL  admitted students who are U.S. Citizens must submit documentation that verifies his/her lawful presence in the United States at time of  acceptance to Augusta University Office of Academic Admissions..

NOTE: Applications deferred to another semester are subject to all admission requirements and program requirements in effect for the semester to which they are deferred.

Prerequisite Coursework: Undergraduate or graduate chemistry course with a minimum grade of "B". Completion of a 3 credit hour undergraduate or graduate statistics or biostatistics course with a grade of "B" or better.

Personal Interview: Interviews by invitation only. Applicants will be selected for an interview based on an initial review of submitted application materials. Selected applicants will be notified directly by the program.

Resume or CV: Include the date of most recent revision. This item is uploaded directly into NursingCAS.

Essay: Included within the application, applicants must submit a written component describing why you want to be a nurse anesthetist and how your previous education and experiences will enhance your ability in the program.

Licensure: Proof of unrestricted RN license from state where applicant is practicing at the time of application. Proof of current unrestricted Georgia RN license is required prior to enrollment. This item is uploaded directly into NursingCAS.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year full-time critical care (Intensive Care Unit Only) RN experience within the past 3 years. 

Background Check: A clear or expunged criminal background record.

  • Per the Augusta University Criminal Background Check Policy  (Policy 4.1.7), final admission and enrollment for all graduate nursing and education programs are conditional on the completion of a criminal background check with results deemed acceptable to the applicable college/program’s professional standards.
  • Failure to complete the required background check, provide information necessary to conduct the background check, or provide false or misleading information, may disqualify applicants from final admission and matriculation into the program and University.
  • Instructions for completing criminal background checks will be provided to applicants upon acceptance into these programs. For further information on the policy including the policy statement, reason for the policy, authorization process, process/procedures, and review process, please refer to the Applicant Criminal Background Check Policy.

GPA: Minimum overall undergraduate GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.

GRE: Minimum GRE score of 300 (sum of verbal and quantitative sections).   

Experience: At least 2 years of critical care experience earned in an ICU (does not include PACU, OR, ER or telemetry step down units).

Early submission of completed application and supporting documents (by 7/1 or before).

APPLICATION PROCESS

Graduate students are admitted through a cooperative effort between The Office of Academic Admissions, The Graduate School (TGS; program’s administrative home) and the colleges or departments that offer TGS graduate degree or certificate programs (program’s academic home). TGS graduate programs enjoy a significant amount of autonomy to make admissions recommendations, while The Graduate School provides oversight to help set and ensure high academic standards in making the final decision. Admission to TGS graduate programs is a multi-step process:

The program/academic college for which you are applying will review your Graduate School application and supporting documents.  Interviews will be scheduled and considered, as applicable to individual programs. Taken together, the whole of your application should demonstrate substantial preparation for graduate study in the field for which you are seeking admittance.

Exceptions and/or waivers of minimum requirements must first be supported and approved at the program level and then formally approved by the Dean of The Graduate School.

Upon recommendation of the program/academic college, The Graduate School will review your credentials and applicant profile and make a formal, official decision for your admittance. Official notice of your admission can only come from the dean of The Graduate School via notification from Augusta University’s Office of Academic Admission.
